Dispensing Medication Abortion in the Community Pharmacy Setting

Under the umbrella of the Abortion and Reproductive Health Integrated Support & Education (ARISE) ECHO Program, the Dispensing Medication Abortion in the Community Pharmacy Setting (MAB) ECHO session will provide specialized education and strategies to pharmacists and pharmacy technicians, along with physicians, nurses, and community providers, to expand access to and knowledge of medication abortion in New Jersey. The goal of this session is to educate participants about the context for abortion medication provision in New Jersey, including the roles and responsibilities of pharmacists, the current laws and regulations, and how to prescribe and facilitate prescription of mifepristone and misoprostol, including discussion of contraindications and other important considerations. The session will also include general discussion of abortion care for context, including values clarification.
This is a one-time, 60-minute session that will be repeated periodically.
All pharmacists and pharmacy technicians are encouraged to attend this session, along with advanced practice clinicians (midwives, nurse practitioners and PAs), physicians (especially physician prescribers), nursing, and social work providers involved in obstetrics gynecology, family medicine, and sexual and reproductive health services.
